As an engaged scholar and proponent of academic diplomacy, my mission is to build bridges across sectors and societies. I aim to leverage the power of scientific and experiential knowledge to enhance community engagement and strengthen communities around the world, particularly through initiatives in higher education, public administration, and volunteerism.
After completing my PhD in Public Administration at the University of Southern California in 2007, I joined the faculty at the University of Central Florida, where I am now Pegasus Professor—the highest and most selective designation afforded to full professors at the university. My work emphasizes academic diplomacy and community engagement, particularly in the context of higher education. I was also a Fulbright Scholar in Lithuania and Russia and maintain faculty affiliations with universities in Lithuania and the United Kingdom.
I have three key projects that are guiding my work today: (1) building individual and institutional capacity within higher education to navigate divisive environments, (2) leading a multi-national and multi-disciplinary team focused on the democratic performance of government and nonprofit organizations through effective public administration, and (3) implementing the most comprehensive analysis of volunteerism and volunteers ever conducted on or in partnership with the National Park Service.
